MUTEK is a Montréal‑based international festival dedicated to electronic music and digital creativity, showcasing innovative sound, audiovisual art, and immersive technological experiences. Founded in 2000, it has become a global platform for visionary artists and emerging talent, offering live performances, cutting‑edge installations, and a professional forum that encourages experimentation and new ideas in contemporary digital arts.
The mandate was to create a new brand identity for MUTEK that feels more expressive, adaptable, and aligned with the festival’s forward‑thinking spirit. The first step was redesigning the logo — a core element that needed to be flexible enough to reach broader audiences while still capturing the festival’s experimental DNA.
MUTEK’s values center on innovation, exploration, and the fusion of sound and digital art, so the new identity needed to reflect that energy visually. Because the festival brings together musicians, visual artists, and programmers to create immersive, often futuristic experiences, the design direction naturally leans toward a rave‑inspired, techno‑forward aesthetic.
My goal was to build a system that feels dynamic and modular, one that can shift across mediums — from posters to motion graphics to digital interfaces — while maintaining a strong sense of cohesion. The identity should feel alive, rhythmic, and technologically driven, echoing the sensory experience of attending MUTEK itself.
